What is Pride?
Pride is a feeling of great joy derived from one’s own skills and quality of wisdom that leads to significant success. It’s all about self-esteem, selfishness, self-worth, ego and self-respect. Pride does not sincerely give all the glory to the LORD.
10 Vital Signs of Pride You Should Watch Out For!
1. Self-glorification; The love to impress people with your body shape and how your cosmetics can make you appear ‘exceptionally beautiful’.
“Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendour; I cast you to the ground, I laid you before kings, that they might gaze at you.” (Ezekiel 28:17)
2. When you start having a thought that the success of your ministry, wealth or business is as a result of your organized skills.
“By your great wisdom in trade you have increased your riches, and your heart is lifted up because of your riches.” (Ezekiel 28:5)
3. Sign of pride manifest if you become satisfied and feel you do not need any more guidance or counsel from the LORD.
“When they had pasture, they were filled; They were filled and their heart was exalted; therefore, they forgot Me.” (Hosea 13:6)
4. To draw attention of people towards yourself that you are powerful.
“But when he was strong his heart was lifted up, to his destruction, for he transgressed against the LORD his God by entering the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense.” (2 Chronicles 26:16)
5. A prideful person would always put-up disagreement when corrected.
“By pride comes nothing but strife, but with the well-advised is wisdom.” (Proverbs 13:10)
6. Humble lifestyle is a taboo for a heart full of pride.
“But He gives more grace. Therefore, He says: “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6)
7. They believe that all knowledge is with them and they get irritated when someone else is teaching.
8. The pride of spirituality is so high that they tell people their strength of fasting, boast about spiritual gifts and the likes.
“Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.” (Matthew 6:16)
9. The anger of GOD is triggered when His children manifest pride in the church.
“Then Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD did not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.” (2 Chronicles 32:26)
10. Prideful person would always love to be praised and exalted for everything they do!
